Cooling Efficiency - Time & Temperature

Cooler performance on combined mode:

🌡️ At 86°F / 30°C, the USB + Freeze Pack Cooler keeps insulin and medicines refrigerated between 36-46°F / 2-8°C for 52 hours and cool below 79°F / 26°C for 72 hours.

🌡️ At 95°F / 35°C, the USB + Freeze Pack Cooler keeps insulin and medicines refrigerated between 36-46°F / 2-8°C for 50 hours and cool below 79°F / 26°C for 70 hours.

🌡️ At 104°F / 40°C, the USB + Freeze Pack Cooler keeps insulin and medicines refrigerated between 36-46°F / 2-8°C for 48 hours and cool below 79°F / 26°C for 68 hours.

Cooler Performance on Freeze Pack Mode:

🌡️ At 86°F / 30°C, the Freeze Pack Cooler keeps insulin and medicines refrigerated between 36-46°F / 2-8°C for 33 hours, and cool below 79°F / 26°C for 52 hours.

🌡️ At 95°F / 35°C, the Freeze Pack Cooler keeps insulin and medicines refrigerated between 36-46°F 7 2-8°C for 30 hours, and cool below 79°F / 26°C for 48 hours.

Cooler Performance on USB Only:

The USB lid alone cannot maintain refrigerated temperatures for insulin and medications. Instead, it is ideal for carrying open and in-use medicines cool and protected from heat, ensuring they remain at room temperature below the threshold of 79°F / 26°C.

This function operates efficiently in environments with ambient temperatures of 86°F / 30°C, delivering the following cooling performance:

🌡️ At 86°F / 30°C, the USB Insulin Cooler effectively lowers the internal temperature to 25°F / 15°C compared to the external temperature. This consistent cooling mechanism maintains interior temperatures between 46-79°F / 8-26°C for as long as it is plugged into a power source.

How to Use Your Cooler

The key to unlock the full potential of the Explorer Insulin Cooler is mastering its three-in-one cooling methods. Versatile and adaptable, this travel cooler operates seamlessly on USB-power, freeze packs, or a combination of both. Here's your guide to use it correctly and the cooling performance you can expect from each method.

1. FREEZE PACK + USB POWER INSULIN COOLER

Using both the Biogel Freeze Pack and the USB Lid simultaneously is the most powerful cooling method from the Explorer Insulin Cooler. It keeps your insulin and medicines cold for up to 3 days, even in the most challenging summer conditions.

1. Prepare the Biogel: For even distribution, shake the Biogel freeze pack up and down four or five times.

2. Then, simply place your Biogel freeze pack in the freezer for 6-8 hours before use. (there is no issue if you leave it in the freezer for more than 8 hours.)

3. Once you need to use it, submerge the freeze pack in luke-warm tap water for 120-180 seconds before placing it into the insulated cooling bottle. In the absence of luke-warm water, leave it outside for 15-20 minutes before use; however, the warm tap water method is more efficient throughout the year and at various seasonal temperatures. Following one of the procedures above will remove the ice layer (frost) from the surface of this cooling component, eliminating the risks of freezing your medicine when in direct contact.

4. Gently towel dry the Biogel and place your insulin or medicine inside the cooling case, along with the frozen pack.

5. Seal the cooler with the USB lid and connect it to any USB power source. It's that simple!

Our rigorous laboratory tests have demonstrated exceptional cooling performance:

2. FREEZE PACK COOLER – No USB Lid

When you're traveling without access to power, use your Explorer Insulin Cooler as a simple freeze pack cooling case. It’s the perfect solution for carrying your medicines during air travels, off-the-grid adventures, or simply when you prefer to travel lighter without extra batteries.

1. Swap out the USB lid for the regular lid.

2. Prepare the Biogel: For even distribution, shake the Biogel freeze pack up and down four or five times.

3. Then, simply place your Biogel freeze pack in the freezer for 6-8 hours before use. There is no issue if you leave it in the freezer for more than 8 hours.

5. Gently towel dry the Biogel and place your insulin or medicine inside the cooling case, along with the frozen pack.

  • Close the regular lid securely, and you're all set!

3. USB-POWERED INSULIN COOLER – No Freeze Pack

  • At 86°F / 30°C, the USB Insulin Cooler effectively lowers the internal temperature to 25°F / 15°C compared to the external temperature. This consistent cooling mechanism maintains interior temperatures between 46-79°F / 8-26°C for as long as it is plugged into a power source.

ALL-PURPOSE MEDICINE TRAVEL COOLER: NOT JUST FOR INSULIN!

Despite its name, the Explorer Insulin Cooler isn’t just for insulin! It's an all-purpose medicine travel cooler, ideal for carrying any medication that requires refrigeration. So, whether you’re using Mounjaro, Zepbound, Ozempic, Trulicity, Saxenda, Humira, Enbrel, growth hormones, or any refrigerated injections—the Explorer has you covered!

For details about how many of your specific injector pens or syringes you can carry with the Explorer, refer to the “Size & Fit” section above.

READY FOR ANY TRAVEL & EXCURSION

The USB lid of the Explorer Insulin Cooler is compatible with any USB-power source. Easily plug it into a car's cigarette lighter during road trips, connect to a portable power bank while hiking, simply plug it into a standard household power, or even use a solar panel when camping. Your medications are kept cool no matter where your adventures take you.

And for those times when power isn't an option, simply switch the lid and use the alternative freeze pack function. Perfect for traveling with insulin and medicines in any situations!

TSA-APPROVED COOLER: FLY WITH INSULIN

We know the hassle of flying with insulin and refrigerated medications, so we've made sure all our medical travel coolers are TSA-approved for air travels, ensuring smooth passage through airport security checkpoints.

To pass through airport security check with your travel cooler:
1. The Biogel needs to be frozen.
2. It should be accompanied by your medication, proving to the security agents that the cooler is used for medical purposes.
If any of these 2 conditions are not met, please put your cooler in your checked luggage to avoid any issues.

The Explorer Insulin Cooler comes with a convenient strap holder, making it super easy and comfortable to carry wherever you go.

FOR REFRIGERATED AND ROOM-TEMPERATURE MEDICINES

When used on freeze pack or combined mode, the Explorer is a powerful insulin cooler that maintains low fridge-like temperatures between 36-46°F / 2-8°C. This may not be your best option for carrying open insulin or most in-use injectable medications that need to stay cool but shouldn’t be re-refrigerated after opening.

For that purpose, we recommend using it on USB mode only, which allows to keep your medicine at room temperature below 79°F / 26°C for unlimited time when connected, as long as the outside temperature is 30 °C (86F) or below. Other coolers, like the Rambler single-pen cooling case, the Companion big cooler bag, or the new Chiller cooling pouches are also designed to transport medicines at a safe room temperature.

Frequently asked questions

How Does the Explorer Insulin Cooler's 3-in-1 System Work?

The Explorer Insulin Cooler operates across three completely independent cooling configurations, giving you more flexibility than any other medical coolers.

In Biogel-only mode, you use the regular lid and the included Biogel freeze pack for passive cooling with no power needed — ideal for flights, off-grid trips, or any situation where cables aren’t practical.

In USB-only mode, you connect the electric lid to any USB power source to keep open, in-use medications cool at room temperature below 79°F / 26°C.

In combined mode, you use both the electric lid and the Biogel freeze pack simultaneously for maximum cooling performance — the best choice for long trips, extreme heat, or multi-day travel.

Switching between modes takes seconds: simply swap the lid and add or remove the Biogel pack.

How Long Does the Explorer Insulin Cooler Keep Medications Cold?

Cooling performance varies by mode and outside temperature.

In combined mode (USB + Biogel), the Explorer Insulin Cooler keeps medications refrigerated (36–46°F / 2–8°C) for up to 48–52 hours and cool below 79°F / 26°C for up to 68–72 hours, depending on outside temperature.

In Biogel-only mode, it keeps medications refrigerated for up to 28–33 hours and cool below 79°F / 26°C for up to 46–52 hours.

In USB-only mode, the cooler keeps medications cool below 79°F / 26°C (not refrigerated) for as long as it stays connected to a power source, at ambient temperatures up to 95°F / 35°C.

Can I Use the Explorer's USB Mode Alone to Refrigerate My Insulin?

No. On the Explorer Insulin Cooler, the USB lid alone cannot maintain fridge temperatures. In USB-only mode, the Explorer functions as a heat-protection cooler, keeping the internal temperature approximately 25°F / 15°C cooler than the outside environment — suitable for open, in-use medications that should be kept cool but not re-refrigerated.

For full refrigeration, always use the Explorer with the Biogel freeze pack, either in Biogel-only or combined mode.

💡 If you need USB-powered refrigeration without a freeze pack, consider the Voyager Portable Travel Refrigerator, the Voyager Mini, the Pioneer Mini Fridge, or the Pioneer PRO

Can I Use the Explorer Insulin Cooler to Carry Open, In-Use Insulin or Medication at Room Temperature?

Yes — but only in USB-only mode. When used with the electric lid connected to a power source and without the Biogel pack, the Explorer keeps medications cool below 79°F / 26°C at room temperature, which is appropriate for open, in-use insulin.

In Biogel or combined mode, the Explorer maintains full fridge temperatures (36–46°F / 2–8°C), which may be too cold for some types and brands of insulin or medications once opened. Always check your specific medication's storage instructions before.

💡 For a purpose-built heat-protection coolers without needing full refrigeration, the Rambler, the Rambler Pro, or the Chiller cooling pouches are excellent alternatives.

How Many Insulin Pens and Vials Fit in the Explorer 3-in-1 Insulin Cooler?

The Explorer Insulin Cooler holds up to 7 standard-format insulin pens (Lantus, NovoRapid, Toujeo, Admelog, Novomix, Apidra, Actrapid, and others) and up to 6 pens of wider formats (Humalog, Tresiba, Levemir, Fiasp, Basaglar, Ryzodeg, and others). It also holds up to 28 Humulin vials or up to 8 Novolog vials, making it ideal for users who rely on vials rather than pens.

ℹ️ Check the full compatibility list in the product images or contact our support team for personalized advice.

Can I Use the Explorer 3-in-1 Cooler for Ozempic, Wegovy, Zepbound, Mounjaro, and Other GLP-1 Injections?

Yes. The Explorer is a great travel cooler for GLP-1 medications!

It holds up to 5 Ozempic or Wegovy pens, up to 6 Saxenda or Byetta pens, up to 7 Victoza pens, and up to 3 Mounjaro, Zepbound, or Trulicity pens, among many others.

ℹ️ If you have any doubt about your specific medication or pen format, contact our support team for personalized advice.

My Medication Is Not on the Compatibility List. Can I Still Use the Explorer?

Very likely yes. The compatibility lists cover the most commonly prescribed medications but are not exhaustive. What determines compatibility is primarily the physical size of your injection device — whether your pen, syringe, or vial fits within the internal chamber (1.93 in / 4.9 cm internal diameter, 7.9 in / 20 cm usable length).

ℹ️ If your medication isn’t listed, check the dimensions on the product images or reach out to our support team with the name and format of your medication and we’ll be happy to confirm compatibility for you.

What Power Sources Are Compatible With the Explorer Insulin Cooler?

The Explorer’s USB lid uses a USB-C to USB-A cable (included) and is compatible with any standard USB power source: power banks, car cigarette lighter adapters, solar panels, and household USB wall adapters. This makes it equally practical for road trips, camping with a solar panel, flights with a power bank, or plugging in at a hotel or office.

💡 For extended trips, the 4AllFamily Pathfinder 20,000 mAh power bank is a purpose-built companion for continuous operation.

What Is the Biogel Freeze Pack and How Do I Use It?

The Explorer 3-in-1 Insulin Cooler includes a Biogel freeze pack that uses a non-toxic natural gel with a freezing point of 36°F / 2°C — meaning it cannot freeze your medication on contact.

To prepare it, shake the pack a few times, freeze for 6–8 hours (or keep in the freezer for longer), then submerge in lukewarm tap water for 2–3 minutes before use to remove any surface frost. Dry gently, then place it in the cooler alongside your medications.

💡The Biogel pack is reusable indefinitely. Additional packs are available here for swap-and-go extended cooling.

Is the Explorer Insulin Cooler Really Safe for Medication Storage?

Yes — and the safety is built in at multiple levels.

The Explorer Insulin Cooler has been laboratory tested to verify its cooling performance across a range of ambient temperatures.

The inner chamber is constructed from food-grade stainless steel 304, safe for direct contact with medication containers. The Biogel freeze pack uses a non-toxic natural gel with a freezing point of 36°F / 2°C, so it physically cannot drop below the safe lower boundary of fridge temperature and freeze your medications. In combined or Biogel mode, the Explorer maintains the same 36–46°F / 2–8°C range as a hospital or pharmacy refrigerator.

Can I Fly With The Explorer Insulin Cooler?

Yes. Like all 4AllFamily's medical travel coolers, the Explorer is TSA-compliant and can be carried through airport security in your hand luggage.

For a smooth airport security check, always carry your medications inside the cooler to demonstrate it is being used for medical purposes.

I Only Need to Carry 1–2 Injection Pens or Syringes. Do You Have a Smaller Medical Cooler?

Yes — the Explorer Insulin Cooler is designed for users who need to carry multiple pens or vials. If you only carry 1–2 pens daily, a more compact cooling case may suit you better.

💡For refrigerated storage, the Nomad Medium is a slim passive cooler that works with Biogel freeze packs. The Voyager Mini adds USB electric cooling on top of the Biogel system in an equally compact format for up to 3 pens.

💡For heat protection only (open, in-use medications at room temperature), the Chiller pouches, the Rambler, or the Rambler Pro are purpose-built for that.

ℹ️ Not sure which cooler is right for you? Contact our support team and we’ll help you choose!

What If I Lose the Biogel Pack or the USB Lid — Can I Replace Them Separately?

Yes — and this is one of the things that makes 4AllFamily's medical travel coolers a great long-term investment.

Every component is available separately, so you never need to replace the entire cooler if one part is lost, damaged, or worn out.

ℹ️ Replacement Biogel freeze packs and USB cooling lids are available on our accessories page. Having a spare Biogel pack is also highly recommended for extended trips — simply freeze one while the other is in use for continuous, uninterrupted cooling.

Is the Explorer Insulin Cooler Eligible for HSA/FSA Payment?

Yes. The Explorer Insulin Cooler can be purchased using HSA (Health Savings Accountor FSA (Flexible Spending Account) funds, letting you save up to 30% compared to paying with after-tax money.

The Flex payment option is available at checkout.

What Is The Return And Warranty Policy For The Explorer?
