Cooling Efficiency - Time & Temperature

Cooling Performance & Duration

The cooling performance depends on the size of your Nomad Pro: the Large model provides slightly longer refrigeration than the Medium.

Large Nomad Pro:

  • At 86°F / 30°C → keeps your insulin & medication refrigerated (36–46°F / 2–8°C) for 33 hours, and cool (<79°F / 26°C) for 52 hours.
  • At 95°F / 35°C → keeps your insulin & medication refrigerated for 30 hours, and cool for 48 hours.
  • At 104°F / 40°C → keeps your insulin & medication refrigerated for 28 hours, and cool for 46 hours.

Medium Nomad Pro:

  • At 86°F / 30°C → keeps your insulin & medication refrigerated for 30 hours, and cool for 48 hours.
  • At 95°F / 35°C → keeps your insulin & medication refrigerated for 28 hours, and cool for 46 hours.
  • At 104°F / 40°C → keeps your insulin & medication refrigerated for 26 hours, and cool for 44 hours.

Pro Tip: Extend The Cooling Duration!

For extended trips or continuous use, keep extra Biogel freeze packs on hand, ready to swap when you need to use your Nomad Pro for longer!

How to Use Your Cooler

How to Use the Nomad Pro Insulin Case for Traveling

The Nomad Pro travel cases are designed to be simple, safe, and reliable for everyday use and travel.

  1. Prepare the Biogel Freeze Pack: Shake the Biogel pack up and down four or five times to evenly distribute the gel inside.
  2. Freeze the Pack: Place the Biogel pack in the freezer for 6–8 hours before use. (No problem if it stays in the freezer longer.)
  3. Activate Before Use: Submerge the frozen Biogel in lukewarm tap water for 2–3 minutes before placing it into the insulated cooling bottle. In the absence of luke-warm water, leave it outside for 15-20 minutes before use. Following one of the procedures above will remove the ice layer (frost) from the surface of the cooling pack, eliminating the risks of freezing your medicine when in direct contact.
  4. Dry & Load: Pat the Biogel freeze pack dry with a towel, then place your insulin or other medications inside the Nomad Pro Cooling Case along with the freeze pack.
  5. Secure & Monitor: Close the lid tightly, and check the touch-screen temperature display any time you need to confirm your medications are stored within the safe range (shown in both °C and °F).

Frequently asked questions

How Long Does The Nomad Pro Insulin Travel Case Keep Insulin Refrigerated?

The Medium Nomad Pro keeps insulin at fridge temperature (36–46°F / 2–8°C) for up to 30 hours at 86°F / 30°C ambient, and up to 26 hours at 104°F / 40°C.

The Big Nomad Pro offers slightly longer performance — up to 32 hours at 86°F / 30°C and up to 28 hours at 104°F / 40°C.

Both sizes also keep medications cool below 79°F / 26°C for up to 46–52 hours, making them reliable for multi-day trips.

Is The Nomad Pro Safe To Use In Extreme Heat, Like On A Beach Or During Summer Heat Waves?

Yes — the Nomad Pro Insulin Travel Case is built to perform in all outdoor conditions. At 104°F / 40°C, the Big Nomad Pro still maintains safe fridge temperature for up to 28 hours.

However, as with any insulin cooler, avoid leaving it in a parked car or in direct sunlight to ensure optimal performance.

How Many Insulin Pens Fit In The Nomad Pro Insulin Travel Case?

The Medium Nomad Pro holds up to 3 pens of standard-format insulin brands (Lantus, NovoRapid, Toujeo, Admelog, Novomix) and up to 2 pens of wider formats (Tresiba, Humalog, Levemir, Fiasp, Basaglar).

The Big Nomad Pro holds up to 7 pens of standard formats and up to 6 pens of the wider ones.

Check the full compatibility list on the product page for your specific insulin pen brand. If you have any doubt, contact our support team via chat for personalized advice.

Can I Use the Nomad PRO Travel Case For GLP-1 Injections Like Ozempic, Zepbound, Wegovy, And Mounjaro?

Yes. Like all our medical travel coolers, the Nomad Pro is a great travel cooler for GLP-1 weight-loss and diabetes injections.

Always check the specific fit using the size guide on the product page, as pen dimensions can vary by country.

If you have any doubt, do not hesitate to contact our support team via chat for personalized advice.

Is The Nomad Pro Travel Case Suitable For Other Medications?

Yes. The Nomad Pro accommodates a wide range of biologics and delicate medications that need to stay refrigerated during transport, including common ones like Enbrel, Actemra, Humira, Dupixent, among many others.

Storage capacity varies by pen or syringe format — check the full compatibility list on the product page or contact our support team via chat for personalized guidance.

What Is The Difference Between The Medium And Big Nomad Pro?

The key difference between these two insulin travel cases is their storage capacity and refrigeration duration.

The Medium Nomad Pro (9.5 in tall, 2.5 in diameter) is more compact, suited for daily carry with 1–3 pens.

The Big Nomad Pro (10.4 in tall, 3.3 in diameter) offers significantly more internal space — ideal for longer trips or carrying numerous injections — and provides marginally longer refrigeration times.

What Is The Difference Between The Nomad Pro And The Standard Nomad Cooling Case?

The Nomad Pro is the upgraded version of our Nomad Cooling Case, with three key improvements:

  • a built-in digital touch-screen temperature display showing real-time internal temperature;
  • a scratch-resistant finish in bold new colors;
  • and a premium insulated carry bag included in the box for added protection and convenience.

The core cooling technology, Biogel system, TSA compliance, and medication compatibility are identical across both models.

How Does The Temperature Display On The Nomad Pro Travel Case Work?

The Nomad Pro Insulin Travel Case features an integrated digital touch screen on the lid that shows the real-time internal temperature of the cooling case in both °C and °F — without needing to open it.

On the Medium Nomad Pro, it runs on long-lasting button-cell batteries with an estimated lifespan of up to 2 years (approximately 30,000 display activations). When the battery eventually runs low, you can replace it yourself with a sharp tool by rotating the glass display where indicated.

On the Big Nomad Pro, the lid is rechargeable with USB power (cable and plug included).

Does The Nomad Pro Insulin Travel Case Require Electricity Or Charging?

No. The Nomad Pro's cooling system is entirely passive and requires no electricity, USB connection, or charging of any kind.

It works solely through the included Biogel freeze pack. The temperature display lid runs on a replaceable button-cell battery, not a rechargeable one, so there's nothing to plug in.

This makes the Nomad Pro a completely self-sufficient insulin travel case — ideal for flights, remote travel, outdoor activities, or any situation where power is unavailable.

What Is The Insulated Carry Bag For, And Do I Need To Use It?

The carry bag is a bonus accessory included with the Nomad Pro.

It is not required for the cooling system to work. It is however insulated, meaning that if you do choose to use it, it adds an extra layer of thermal protection on top of the Nomad Pro's already excellent standalone performance.

Beyond that, the carry bag is designed for everyday convenience:

  • it protects your travel case  from scratches and wear
  • it includes an adjustable shoulder strap for comfortable carrying
  • and it features storage pockets to keep your diabetic accessories, spare needles, or other medical essentials well organized.
Is The Nomad Pro Insulin Travel Case TSA-Compliant For Air Travel?

Yes. Like all 4AllFamily’s medical travel coolers, the Nomad Pro Insulin Travel Case is TSA-compliant and can be carried through airport security in your hand luggage.

An added benefit of the Nomad Pro travel case on flights is the temperature display — you can quickly verify your medications stayed cold throughout boarding and in-flight, without ever opening the case.

Can I Use The Nomad Pro For Open, In-Use Insulin Kept At Room Temperature?

It depends on your insulin and medication's specific storage instructions and whether or not it can be returned to the fridge after being at room temperature.

The Nomad Pro travel case is engineered to maintain refrigerated temperatures (36–46°F / 2–8°C), which may be too cold for some types and brands of insulin or medication that should be kept at room temperature but not fully refrigerated.

If what you need is a heat protection cooler instead of a refrigerated one, we recommend the Rambler single-pen cooler, the new Rambler PRO, or the Chillers cool pouches instead.

What Is Included In The Box With The Nomad Pro Insulin Travel Case?

Every Nomad Pro Insulin Travel Case comes with the insulated medical cooling case, the smart temperature display lid with pre-installed batteries, one reusable Biogel cooling pack (additional cooling packs available here), and a premium insulated carry bag with a thermal inner lining for extra insulation.

Everything you need for safe, refrigerated medication transport is ready to use straight out of the box.

Is The Nomad Pro Insulin Travel Case Eligible For HSA/FSA Payment?

Yes. The Nomad can be purchased using HSA (Health Savings Accountor FSA (Flexible Spending Account) funds, letting you save up to 30% compared to paying with after-tax money.

The Flex payment option is available at checkout.

What Is The Return And Warranty Policy For The Nomad Pro?
