Cooling Efficiency - Time & Temperature

Cooling Efficiency & Duration

The Rambler uses a single cooling method powered by advanced Natural Biogel technology.

Designed for open medications that must be stored below 79°F (26°C), the Rambler helps maintain safe temperature ranges even in hot environments.

Temperature Performance (Internal Range)

When used as directed with a fully frozen Biogel pack:

🌡️ At 104°F (40°C) outside temperature → Maintains 36–79°F (2–26°C) for up to 12 hours

🌡️ At 95°F (35°C) outside temperature → Maintains 36–79°F (2–26°C) for up to 14 hours

🌡️ At 86°F (30°C) outside temperature → Maintains 36–79°F (2–26°C) for up to 16 hours

The Rambler is engineered for reliable, extended protection in warm climates, travel scenarios, and daily outdoor use.

How to Use Your Cooler

The Rambler single-pen insulin travel case cooler is incredibly user-friendly and does not rely on electricity to keep your insulin cool. It's convenience and reliability at your fingertips!

How to Use Your Insulin Pen Travel Case Cooler

1. Freeze the Biogel Cold Pack: Place the Biogel freeze pack in the freezer for a minimum of 6 hours before use.

2. Prepare for Use: Immerse the cold pack in warm water for 30 to 60 seconds. This step ensures that the cold pack's temperature reaches a minimum of 2°C (36°F) to protect your insulin from freezing when in direct contact. Alternatively, you can let the cold pack sit at room temperature for approx. 10 minutes.

3. Pack & Go: Once the cold pack is ready, simply insert it into the insulated cooling bottle along with your insulin pen or other injection. Secure the lid, and that’s it!

4. Extend Your Cooling Time: If needed, you can easily prolong the cooling time of the Rambler by swapping out the cold pack with a newly frozen one. Extra Blue Biogel Cold Packs for the Rambler Insulin Travel Case are available for purchase here.

By following these simple steps, you can ensure optimal cooling performance
and keep your insulin and medication cool in any travel and excursion!

Frequently asked questions

How Long Does the Rambler Keep My Insulin Pen Cool?

The Rambler Insulin Pen Travel Case keeps your insulin and medication cool below 79°F / 26°C for up to 16 hours at 86°F / 30°C, up to 14 hours at 95°F / 35°C, and up to 12 hours at 104°F / 40°C. Enough for most daily use — commuting, working, running errands, a day out, etc.

Can I Use The Rambler Insulin Travel Case to Carry Refrigerated Insulin?

No. The Rambler Insulin Travel Case is designed exclusively for heat protection — it keeps open, in-use medications cool at room temperature below 79°F / 26°C, but it cannot maintain fridge temperatures (36–46°F / 2–8°C). It is not suitable for transporting unopened insulin or other medications that must be refrigerated.

💡If you need to travel with refrigerated medications, you’ll need one of our medical travel refrigerators. Browse our full range of mini fridges and medication coolers to find the right fit for your needs.

Is the Rambler Travel Case Compatible With Medications Other Than Insulin?

Yes — the Rambler is a great cooling case for any injection pen that needs to stay cool at room temperature below 79°F / 26°C.

That said, the Rambler is a small and compact cooling case, and not every injection pen will fit. Its internal chamber measures 0.95 in / 2.4 cm in diameter and 6.8 in / 17.4 cm in length.

ℹ️ Check the product images to verify your medication’s compatibility before ordering. If you’re unsure whether your medication fits, contact our support team with the name and format of your medication, and we’ll be happy to confirm for you!

What Makes the Rambler Better Than a Regular Cooler Bag or Ice Pack?

Three reasons.

  • First, safety: the Rambler’s Biogel pack freezes at 36°F / 2°C and physically cannot drop below that point, eliminating the risk of accidentally freezing your insulin and medication.
  • Second, mess: ice melts and drips; the Biogel pack stays dry and contained throughout.
  • Third, reliability: a lunch bag has no engineered insulation — it’s guesswork.

The Rambler Insulin Travel Case is laboratory tested and proven to maintain cool temperatures for up to 16 hours to medical-grade standards.

How Do I Set Up and Use the Rambler Insulin Travel Case?

The Rambler Insulin Travel Case is very easy to use.

Freeze the included Biogel pack for a minimum of 6 hours (longer if you want). Before use, submerge it in warm water for 30–60 seconds to bring its surface temperature up to a safe level and prevent direct contact with insulin at below-freezing temperatures. Dry it gently, place it inside the Rambler along with your injection pen, seal the lid, and you’re done. No buttons, no cables, no settings.

The whole process takes under a minute and your cooling case is ready to go for up to 16 hours of cooling.

Does the Rambler Insulin Travel Case Require Electricity or Charging?

No. The Rambler works entirely through passive cooling using the included Biogel freeze pack — no electricity, no USB, no charging of any kind.

💡 If you’d prefer an electric insulin cooler, we have several USB cooling cases for you:

  • For room-temperature heat protection with electric precision, check the Rambler Pro.
  • For a cooler that handles both room temperature and full refrigeration, the Explorer is a great versatile choice.
  • For USB-powered refrigeration, the Voyager, the Pioneer Pro, the Pioneer, and the Voyager Mini are purpose-built for that.
Can I Extend the Rambler's Cooling Time Beyond 16 Hours?

Yes. Simply purchase one or more additional Biogel packs and swap them out when the first one warms up. Keep a spare in the freezer at home or in a hotel room minibar, and you can extend protection indefinitely.

What Happens If I Forget to Prep the Biogel Freeze Pack?

If you forget to freeze the Biogel pack, the Rambler Insulin Travel Case will not cool effectively — the pack needs at least 6 hours in the freezer before use. In a pinch, freezing it for 3–4 hours will give partial performance, but for full cooling duration always aim for 6 hours or more.

The pack can stay in the freezer indefinitely without any issues, so we recommend always storing i in the freezer so it's ready whenever you need it.

Do the Biogel Freeze Packs Wear Out, and How Long Do They Last?

The Biogel freeze packs included with our medical coolers are designed to last indefinitely with regular use — there is no fixed lifespan and it does not degrade with repeated freeze-thaw cycles. As long as the pack remains intact and shows no signs of physical damage, leaking, or unusual changes in texture, it will continue to perform as expected.

The only reason to replace it is if it becomes punctured, torn, or starts leaking. If that happens, replacement Biogel packs are available here.

What is the difference between 4AllFamily's Rambler and Rambler Pro Insulin Cases?

Both are compact single-pen insulin coolers designed for open, in-use medications at room temperature.

The upgraded Rambler Pro adds a built-in electric cooling module with a temperature display, auto shut-off, and a rechargeable battery, giving you active temperature control and real-time monitoring in the same slim form factor.

💡 If you want the simplest and most affordable option, the Rambler is ideal. If real-time visibility and electric precision matter to you, the Rambler Pro is worth the upgrade.

Does the Rambler Insulin Travel Case Fit in a Purse, Pocket, or Bag?

Yes — the Rambler is one of the most compact medical travel coolers, measuring just 8.7 in tall and 1.7 in in diameter, and weighing only 0.7 lbs. It slips easily into a handbag, a jacket pocket, a backpack side pocket, or a gym bag without taking up noticeable space.

I Need to Carry More Than 1 Insulin Pen. What Cooler Do You Recommend?

The Rambler Insulin Travel Case is designed for one injection pen only.

If you need to carry more, the best option depends on whether your pens need refrigeration or just heat protection.

  • For heat protection at room temperature, the Chiller cooling pouches hold up to 4 insulin pens in a flat, lightweight format.
  • The Explorer is also an excellent option — in USB-only mode it keeps multiple pens at room temperature, and in Biogel or combined mode it can also refrigerate your unopened stock at the same time, making it a great all-in-one solution.

ℹ️ If you’re not sure which insulin cooler is right for you, contact our support team and we’ll be happy to help you choose.

Can I Fly With The Rambler Insulin Travel Case?

Yes. Like all 4AllFamily's medical travel coolers, the Rambler is TSA-compliant and can be carried through airport security in your hand luggage.

For a smooth security check, your medication must be present inside to demonstrate medical use. Its compact size and passive design make it one of the easiest coolers to travel with — no power banks, no cables, nothing to declare beyond your medication.

Is The Rambler Insulin Travel Case Eligible for HSA/FSA Payment?

Yes. The Rambler can be purchased using HSA (Health Savings Accountor FSA (Flexible Spending Account) funds, letting you save up to 30% compared to paying with after-tax money.

The Flex payment option is available at checkout.

What Is The Return And Warranty Policy For The Rambler?

Not happy with your Rambler? No worries — you have 30 days from delivery to request a return.
